"I am shocked and saddened by the events that have rocked London in the last week.
I didn't make a statement following the fire in Grenfell Tower because I just didn't know what to say. What a horrifying tragedy, which is all the harder to understand, given British fire safety regulations that are amongst the tightest in the world. I am thinking and praying for those injured and for their families and friends.
Then this morning, the awful news of a hate motivated attack on Muslim worshippers at Finsbury Park. Racism has no place in Britain, a country of diverse ethnicity, cultures and traditions as far back in history as you care to look. My thoughts are with the family of the deceased and with all those affected by this atrocious act. I am confident that the strong community spirit of tolerance and love that has shone through in other dark times will shine through again."
