Chinese Embassy Visit

On Wednesday 7th December Newtown had a visit from members of the Chinese Embassy, headed by Minister Jin, the delegates came to view the Robert Owen Museum and had a short tour of the town.

Greeted by Mayor Cllr. Richard Edwards and Cllr. Sue Newham (Chair of the Robert Owen Museum) the Town Council hosted a small buffet and exchanged some gifts with the delegates.

Mayor Cllr. Richard Edwards welcomed the group to Newtown and lead the tour of Newtown to see the Robert Owen Museum, tomb and statue. Robert Owen is very famous in China and they wanted to visit his home town on their journey to Snowden.

Minister Jin said “We have had a very enjoyable day in Newtown and we hope to return in the future, we thank Mayor Richard and Cllr. Sue for their hospitality.”

Poster point, back lane toilets

A public poster point has been added to the front of the Public Toilets at Back Lane car park, we would like to encourage local events, community groups and charities to use the new public poster point.

Improvements in Robert Owen Memorial gardens will flourish in spring

Improvements to the memorial gardens will flourish in spring with a new planting scheme that will fill the gardens with colour and smells this spring. There have been 3,500 crocus bulbs planted in the lawn area that will flower this spring.
