The Newtown Remembers partnership, led by Newtown Town Council has received £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a project to commemorate the impact of the First World War on the town. Awarded through HLF’s First World War then: and now programme, this project will focus on two themes. The first concentrates on research outings to the National Memorial Arboretum in Stafford, the Imperial War Museum of the North in Salford and the National History Museum of Wales in St Fagans near Cardiff. The second will use what has been learnt on these visits to highlight how Newtown and the local population were affected by the war.
