Newtown Outdoor Festival 2020

Newtown, Powys, in the heart of mid-Wales on the banks of the River Severn, is set in some Britain’s most attractive countryside.

One of the best ways to enjoy this scenery is on foot. Walks to suit all ages and abilities are described in this website together with a detailed map of each route. Click on The Walks button on the left to download printable descriptions and maps.

The walks are on Public Rights of Way passing through community woodlands, nature reserves, riverside footpaths, canal tow-paths, and rolling hills in the beautiful Montgomeryshire countryside. Routes are graded by length, time and how easy they are to do. Interesting features and historical facts are highlighted in the walk descriptions but the main pleasure is simply in getting out there.

The walks start and end near the centre of Newtown. The town has good bus and rail links to other towns and cities. Your walk can be rounded off with shopping, tea, lunch or a pint. The OS maps that cover these walks are OS Explorer Map 214 - Llanidloes & Newtown & OS Explorer Map 215 - Newtown & Machynlleth.

The Newtown Outdoor Festival in June, 2020 was cancelled as a result of the coronavirus.  We hope to see you on the first weekend of June, 2021, COVID-19 permitting.  In the meantime we have been working hard at creating Short Strolls that anyone can do in the Neighbourhoods of Newtown.  Click on any walk to join these short circuits close to where you live or work.  For the longer walks our members have been going out as individuals to try to keep the paths clear for safe and healthy exercise. Please note that public toilets in town are open.
