Although the Newtown Hall estate had been dissipated in the eighteenth century the hall itself had, in 1804, passed to the Rev George Arther Evors, a direct descendant of Sir John Pryce. Evors invested heavily in the burgeoning wool industry and set about recreating the ancient estate. After his death his property passed, through his sister, Lady Diana Evors, to the Brisco family, who owned numerous large estates all over Britain and Ireland, their principle seat being in Hastings. They became owners of the Newtown Hall Estate in 1849 when Arthur Brisco inherited it from his mother’s family, who were direct descendants of the Pryces of Newtown Hall. On Arthur’s death the estate passed to his father,Wastel Brisco snr. On his death in 1878 the estate passed to his son also named Wastel. Up to the time of Wastel junior’s death in 1891 the family were absentee landlords delegating the running of the estate to local agents (T Sturkey) who kept a close watch on all of their interests, ensuring they gained the maximum return on what they owned.
