Directions

This delightful walk starts at the north, Llanllwchaiarn end, of the Halfpenny Bridge, which leads from Severn Square to Edwards Field.  Descend the ramp at Edwards Field and turn right down Cambrian Gardens. At the T junction cross Cambrian Way and turn right to follow Dolafon Road.  You will pass some pretty, well-maintained cottages built on the site of the Montgomery Canal basin, which used to end in Newtown.  When you reach Lower Canal Road at the Waggon and Horses turn right and stroll past the blocks of apartments built on the site of the Cambrian woolen mill. You will also pass the row of mill workers cottages, Dysart Terrace.  At the end of this row, cross the road and go up the sloping footpath on the west side of the road.

This footpath leads you up to Hillside Avenue, where you turn left.  Hillside Avenue end in a Y or T shaped junction with Barn Lane and Mwyn Fynnydd.  Turn left down Mwyn Fynnydd and you will enjoy good views to the hills above and beyond the town.  This road continues as Y Ffrydd which brings you down on to Canal Road opposite the community meeting hall where you turn right.  At the junction, cross the road at the crossing and head down the small paved path, Wire Walk, to arrive back at the Halfpenny Bridge.
