Newtown & Llanwchaiarn Town Council is proud to announce the recipients of its October 2025 round of community funds. These grants support a wide range of local initiatives that enrich lives, foster inclusion and strengthen the social fabric of our town. From festive celebrations to vital wellbeing services, each project reflects the heart of our community.
Here’s a look at the inspiring organisations and projects awarded funding:
Hub of Hope
Purpose: Providing hot meals and companionship on Christmas Day for vulnerable, isolated and elderly residents. The initiative offers both homemade delivered meals and a festive sit down gathering to ensure no one spends the holiday alone.
Newtown Community Cafe
Purpose: Supporting winter running costs to maintain a warm, welcoming space for residents. The café also delivers hot meals to housebound individuals, helping combat isolation and hardship during colder months.
Cre8 Wellbeing
Purpose: Facilitating yoga, mindfulness, and life coaching sessions for up to 30 children aged 7–11. The programme introduces chair yoga, breathing techniques, and positive mindset coaching to improve mental and physical health. Cre8 Wellbeing’s vision is to empower all residents, young and old to use their minds positively, drawing on both ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience and somatic therapy.
Heritage Hub 4 Mid Wales
Purpose: Researching and digitally recording the legacy of Newtown born Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones, a pioneer of modern home shopping. The project includes bilingual storyboards, a May 2026 exhibition and school heritage activities.
Cultivate – Green Gym
Purpose: Hosting weekly outdoor sessions at the Cultivate Community Garden. These combine gentle exercise, practical gardening and nature-based learning to promote wellbeing and environmental stewardship.
Lingen Davies
Purpose: Offering a 12-week yoga programme for individuals living with and beyond cancer. Held at The Hafren, these fully funded sessions support physical and emotional health without financial barriers.
St Mary’s RC School
Purpose: Creating a Movement Break Zone with outdoor gym facilities to enhance learning accessibility and support holistic education.
Penygloddfa School
Purpose: Funding a festive trip for infant pupils to meet Santa aboard the Llanfair Caereinion steam train.
Hope House
Purpose: Supporting the acquisition of a fully accessible minibus to reduce isolation and improve access to hospice services for children and families with complex needs.
Kindness Events Newtown
Purpose: Hosting “Kindness at Christmas,” a free three-day celebration from 19–21 December. Featuring donkey rides, Santa visits and an outdoor ice rink, the event ensures festive joy is accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances.
