Councillor John Byrne has been elected as the Mayor of Newtown & Lllanllwchaiarn for the municipal year 2023/24 at Council Annual Meeting on Monday 22nd May 2023. Cllr Mike Childs as elected Deputy Mayor. Both councillors will be serving a 2nd year in office within their roles.
Commenting, Cllr John Byrne says “It is a great honour to have been elected to office by fellow councillors for my second year as Mayor of Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn. I am keen to continue the progressive work that the council has already achieved, whilst also assisting and enabling on projects which will only enhance our town and the communities within it. Let’s continue to support and work together, as a team, to improve Newtown for our residents, businesses and visitors.”
Town Clerk, Ed Humphreys, comments “On behalf of all staff I welcome the returning Mayor and Deputy Mayor to office for the next 12 months. Within their roles their duties are to primarily chair council meetings and to undertake civic ceremonial as first citizen and ambassador for the town. Both roles can be demanding and time consuming, so the staff and I very much look forward to supporting them whilst in office”.
