Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents and visitors, as well as the preservation of its natural surroundings. With this commitment in mind, the Town Council wishes to address recent concerns regarding the trees located at Back Lane carpark.
Last year, one of the trees in the carpark was cut down due to significant basal decay, which was rapidly progressing throughout the tree, posing a potential risk to public safety. Inspectors deemed the risk of harm to the public so high that removal was deemed the safest and most cost-effective solution.
Following a recent tree survey, it has been identified that the two remaining trees in the carpark are also showing signs of decline. While they are currently deemed worthy of retention, they require increased management, including at least an annual inspection, to ensure the safety of those in the vicinity. Reports that they have been or will be felled are untrue unless there is a severe risk to public safety.
The decisions regarding tree management are made with careful consideration for the safety of the public and surrounding property, as well as the well-being of the trees themselves.
Your Town Council remains dedicated to the planting of new trees, with initiatives such as the ongoing planting of 20 poplar trees around the town and understands the importance of preserving and maintaining green spaces for future generations to enjoy. However, it also has legal obligations to prioritise safety, especially when dealing with trees that may pose potential risks.

Mae Cyngor Tref Newtown a Llanllwchaiarn yn ymrwymedig i sicrhau diogelwch a lles ei drigolion ac ymwelwyr, yn ogystal â chadwraeth eu hamgylchedd naturiol. Gyda’r ymrwymiad hwn mewn golwg, dymunai’r Cyngor Tref fynd i’r afael â phryderon diweddar ynghylch coed sy’n lleoli yn maes parcio Back Lane.
Y llynedd, torrwyd un o’r coed yn y maes parcio oherwydd halogiad basal sylweddol, a oedd yn datblygu’n gyflym drwy’r coeden, gan fynd â risg bosibl i ddiogelwch y cyhoedd. Er eu bod yn cael eu hystyried yn werth eu cadw ar hyn o bryd, maent yn gofyn am fwy o reoli, gan gynnwys arolygiad blynyddol o leiaf, i sicrhau diogelwch y rhai sydd yn eu cyffiniau. Adroddiadau bod y coed wedi’u torri neu y byddant yn cael eu torri yn anwiredd, oni bai bod risg i ddiogelwch y cyhoedd.

Mae eich Cyngor Tref yn parhau’n ymrwymedig i blannu coed newydd, gyda mentrau fel plannu 20 coeden poplar o gwmpas y dref.
