Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council proudly announces the success of its funding awarded to Citizens Advice Powys, an esteemed local resource making a positive impact. Your town council grant has enabled Citizens Advice Powys to continue providing free, confidential, impartial, and independent information and advice to residents of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn in need.

Citizens Advice Powys, an independent not-for-profit charity supported by dedicated partners, specialist staff, and volunteers, is respected for promoting diversity, equality, and challenging discrimination within the community. With a mission to empower and enhance lives, Citizens Advice Powys offers tailored advice on various challenges, including financial matters, housing, employment, and more, ensuring accessibility for all Newtown residents.

The grant aims to improve the well-being of residents living within Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn by providing vital advice appointments for urgent needs specifically for this community. The grants enable the Citizens Advice Powys expert team offers personalised solutions, going the extra mile to accommodate those in need.

The aim of this service is to provide residents of the five electoral wards of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn access to advice appointments to meet their urgent needs. Using the town council funding, Citizens Advice Powys allocates dedicated adviser hours to support this service.

Before allocating an appointment under this service, Citizens Advice Powys checks the person’s postcode to ensure that they live within the boundaries of Newtown. They then assess the urgency of their advice needs and work out the best route forward. With limited capacity under the Newtown Advice project, if there is no capacity within the project, Citizens Advice Powys offers appointments either in person or via telephone to suit a person’s advice needs and to ensure any deadlines or urgency are met.

Between 1st January 2024 and 31st March 2024, Citizens Advice Powys assisted nine clients in accessing £50,829 of welfare benefits per year, including:

· Personal Independent Payment Awards – Ongoing: £20,612

· Personal Independent Payment Awards – Backdated: £5,315

· Employment Support Allowance: £5,899

· Attendance Allowance: £5,509

· Housing Benefit: £4,701

The top benefit issues faced by people supported under this project include:

· Personal Independent Payment

· Council Tax Reduction

· Universal Credit Housing Element

· Universal Credit Standard Element

· Employment Support Allowance

Nod y gwasanaeth hwn yw rhoi mynediad i drigolion y pum ward etholiadol yn y Drenewydd a Llanllwchaiarn i apwyntiadau cyngor i fodloni eu hanghenion brys. Gan ddefnyddio cyllid y cyngor tref, mae Cyngor ar Bopeth Powys yn dyrannu oriau cynghorydd penodedig i gefnogi’r gwasanaeth hwn.

Yna maent yn asesu brys eu hanghenion cyngor ac yn penderfynu ar y llwybr gorau ymlaen. Gyda chapasiti cyfyngedig o dan brosiect Cyngor y Drenewydd, os nad oes capasiti o fewn y prosiect, mae Cyngor ar Bopeth Powys yn cynnig apwyntiadau naill ai wyneb yn wyneb neu dros y ffôn i ddiwallu anghenion cyngor person a sicrhau bod unrhyw derfynau amser neu frys yn cael eu cyrraedd.
