Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council’ Strategy and Corporate Projects Committee convened to review the findings of a survey of the provision of community halls in the South Ward and Llanllwchaiarn area.
In response to previous concerns raised at committee about potential gaps in community hall provision, your council undertook a follow up survey of south ward and of Llanllwchaiarn area. Councillor R. Taylor and officers provided a project update. The data, previously presented and resubmitted, was analysed and discussed at length during the SCPC meeting.
Despite extensive efforts to solicit feedback, including door-to-door hard copy surveys, the response rate was lower than anticipated. Additionally, interest in volunteering to join a residents’ group to help run a hall was lower still. The committee acknowledged some previous public expressions of concern on social media but noted the lack of strong evidence in the survey data for the need for additional community hall provision.
Following careful debate, the committee resolved that, based on the survey data responses, it does not see evidence of need for additional community hall provision in the South Ward and Llanllwchaiarn areas and resolves to close the follow up project PP CF1.
However, the council recognised the additional value of the door-to-door survey work undertaken by town councillors as a foundation for future community engagement initiatives, and thanked all those who took part.
