Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council are pleased to report that our new water refill station is now fully functional and registered to the refill scheme campaign.
Around the world we create more than 300 million tonnes of plastic every year – and half of this is single-use. One of the worst offenders of single use plastic is plastic drinks bottles, with a million of them sold every minute around the world. The Refill campaign has already prevented over 100 million pieces of plastic at source, and their aim is to connect people to places they can shop, eat and drink without pointless packaging; therefore, helping to prevent plastic pollution and making “reduce, reuse, refill and repeat” the new social norm.
By installing a water refill station on the outdoor wall of the Town Council offices it will allow the community access to free drinking water and will encourage the use of reusable drink bottles rather than the single use plastic bottles.
Cllr John Byrne, Chair of Service Committee comments “As a committee we are pleased to see the water refill station in place and fully operational for the residents and visitors of Newtown. We hope it will be utilised to provide everyone the opportunity to remain hydrated, assisting in health & well-being especially in the warmer weather. Additionally, it is great that Newtown are helping to reduce the use of single use plastics and support the refill campaign.
Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Councils water refill station is registered to the refill scheme and app. The Refill App can help direct people to find free water refills in a location all around the world.
