In 2022, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne at just 25 years old, on 6th February 1952.
There are plans in place for year-long Platinum Jubilee Celebrations throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the word. Throughout the year, her Majesty and members of the Royal Family will travel around the country undertaking a variety of engagements to mark the historic occasion, culminating with the focal point of the Platinum Jubilee Weekend in June. It is encouraged that communities and people come together to celebrate the Queen’s historic reign.
To give the opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone, an extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June will take place.
In light of the significant event, it has been discussed that Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council will look to support the community in planning and organising Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. Following the current Community Fund Structure and application, considerations are in place to look at if the Fund can be opened for funding of Platinum Jubilee Events. Further details and clarification will be provided in due course.
