Following a request to Full Council from Cllr Richard Williams, Mayor of Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn, St Mary’s Church have been lit in support of for the people of Ukraine.
Cllr Richard Williams said, “After watching the horrific and unsettling events in Ukraine, I applied to the town council to light St Marys Church in the colours of the Ukrainian Flag, in order to show solidarity to the people of Ukraine that the residents and businesses of Newtown stands with the people of Ukraine against aggression and conflict.”
The Act of solidarity for the people of Ukraine by Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council joins many other acts organised throughout Wales in the wake of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Many buildings across the country have followed a similar action, including many within Newtown itself.
