Newtown is officially looking festive following the Christmas Light switch on.
“It was great to see so many people in Newtown on Saturday night helping us to officially ‘Kick off Christmas’ for 2021. We were so pleased that Santa was able to take some time out of his very busy schedule to come and visit us and my thanks to Alliance Theatre and my fellow councillors and staff at the Town Council for pulling off a fantastic event in such a short space of time. The comments I’ve received and seen on social media are incredibly positive and it was great to bring back our Christmas Market in Bear Lanes to support local charities and businesses, at a very important time of the year for our local economy”said Lead Councillor and Mayor of Newtown Cllr Richard Williams.
An excellent Christmas story sound and light show projected on to the Town Hall building produced by Alliance Theatre together with the Christmas Market in Bear Lanes provided the community with an evening full of festivities. Santa made a special appearance to help switch on the town’s Christmas lights.
“After a Covid induced absence in 2020 it felt good to be back with the Kicking Off Christmas lights event in 2021. The town council thanks all who have helped in any way with the organisation and delivery of the occasion. We still had some Covid limitations in what could be organised and delivered but a number of people and organisations were prepared to step up and help us make it the successful community event it was”. Commented Town Clerk, Ed Humphreys.
