Deputy Mayor and Councillor Richard White represented Newtown Town Council at the recent VJ Day Anniversary in Newtown. A short service was held at the cenotaph to mark the end of the Second World War.
Councillor Richard White speaking about the service said,”Despite the limitations imposed by Covid-19 it’s right that we remember those who fell in WW2 and good to see the people of Newtown turn out to do so on VJ Day. We musn’t forget that VJ Day also marked the end of WW2 which brought so much hardship to so many on all sides.”
VJ Day marks the day Japan surrendered on the 15th August 1945 which in effect ended the Second World War.
