Your Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Council recently celebrated the winners of its flag design competition, recognising the creativity and effort of participants. The competition, which aimed to engage the community in creating a new flag to celebrate the 50th Anniversary saw a wide range of submissions from residents of all ages.
During the celebration event, the council unveiled the winning designs, which were selected based on their originality, relevance to Newtown’s heritage and values, and visual appeal. The winning flag quite literally flying the flag for the town, is proudly displayed outside Sarah Brisco House in the town centre.
In addition to the main prize, the runner-up, third place and highly commended were also acknowledged for their impressive contributions. The council expressed gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and creativity, noting that the competition helped foster a sense of community pride and involvement.
This initiative not only highlighted the artistic talents within the community but also strengthened the link between the community and the council it elects.
Mayor of Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Cllr Mike Childs commented:
“I was greatly pleased by the number and quality of entries. There was a wide range of ideas, some concentrating on wildlife, some on buildings and bridges. some using downloaded images. We had entries from a wide age range, making judging particularly difficult. There were many entries worthy of being the celebratory flag, but I hope everyone will love the winning design”.

Yn ddiweddar, dathlodd eich Cyngor Drenewydd a Llanllwchaearn enillwyr ei gystadleuaeth dylunio baneri, gan gydnabod creadigrwydd ac ymdrech y cyfranogwyr. Roedd y gystadleuaeth, a oedd â’r nod o ennyn diddordeb y gymuned i greu baner newydd i ddathlu’r 50ain Pen-blwydd yn cynnwys ystod eang o gyflwyniadau gan drigolion o bob oed.
Yn ystod y digwyddiad dathlu, dadorchuddiodd y cyngor y dyluniadau buddugol, a ddewiswyd ar sail eu gwreiddioldeb, perthnasedd i dreftadaeth a gwerthoedd Y Drenewydd, a’r apêl weledol. Mae’r faner fuddugol yn llythrennol yn chwifio’r faner ar gyfer y dref, yn cael ei harddangos yn falch y tu allan i Sarah Brisco House yng nghanol y dref.
Yn ogystal â’r brif wobr, cydnabuwyd yr ail orau, y trydydd safle a’r clod uchel hefyd am eu cyfraniadau trawiadol. Diolchodd y cyngor i’r holl gyfranogwyr am eu brwdfrydedd a’u creadigrwydd, gan nodi bod y gystadleuaeth wedi helpu i feithrin ymdeimlad o falchder a chyfranogiad cymunedol.
Roedd y fenter hon nid yn unig yn tynnu sylw at y doniau artistig yn y gymuned ond hefyd yn cryfhau’r cysylltiad rhwng y gymuned a’r cyngor y mae’n ei ethol.
Dywedodd Maer Y Drenewydd a Llanllwchaearn, y Cynghorydd Mike Childs:
“Roeddwn yn falch iawn o nifer ac ansawdd y ceisiadau. Roedd amrywiaeth eang o syniadau, rhai yn canolbwyntio ar fywyd gwyllt, rhai ar adeiladau a phontydd. Mae rhai yn defnyddio delweddau wedi’u llwytho i lawr. Cawsom geisiadau o ystod oedran eang, gan wneud beirniadu yn arbennig o anodd. Roedd llawer o geisiadau yn deilwng o fod yn faner ddathlu, ond gobeithio y bydd pawb wrth eu boddau â’r cynllun buddugol“.
