Cllr David Selby, Mayor of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn commenting today on the death of Phil Watkins.
“Phil Watkins will be sadly missed by very many in the town. He worked tirelessly for Newtown and served on the town council for 23 years and as Mayor from 1997 to 1998. He was associated with the Silver Band and Annual Band Concert and music was in his blood. He played his part in keeping the Town Carnival as an annual event. He was a Governor of Maesyrhandir School for many years and enjoyed his work with the staff and children. Phil was very much a Newtonian and there were few events in the town that Phil didn’t support in some way.
“Phil was a determined, generous and gentle man and our thoughts today are with Elaine and his children and grandchildren”
