Following a recently negotiated license agreement with Powys County Council, Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council have taken over the responsibility of maintaining of Crescent Roundabout.
Part of the agreement is that the town council are obliged to keep the planting to a certain low level in order to promote good visibility across the junction. Small growing and low spreading plants have been chosen to achieve this requirement, but also ones which have excellent properties for pollinators and other wildlife. These plants will be supplemented with an injection of colour with a selection of spring flowering bulbs that the town council will plant in the autumn. In an effort to minimise the use of harmful weed killers, the outdoor operatives of the town council staff worked tirelessly to hand weed the roundabout before replanting.
Cllr John Byrne, Chair of services committee commented “Since Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council took over the responsibility of maintaining the crescent roundabout we are tremendously pleased with the work town council staff have put into transforming the presentation of the roundabout to compliment the town with its progressive works around bringing more colour and supporting its greener cleaner plans into the town”.
