We all know that staying in is the new going out and this year the Light Switch on event will be an amazing night in to remember! The exciting programme of talented, local performers is being finalised and a stunning laser light show which will light up the night sky around Newtown is also planned! The laser light show will be seen from the skies of Newtown and via #newtowntv live streamed from the newtown.org.uk website.

Celf Your Health are encouraging people to get out on their doorsteps and their gardens to watch the show and “Make some Noise for Newtown” with pots and pans and chants and samba dancing.

Show off the lanterns you have made and really light up the town on this exciting and unique event. Make memories in the comfort of your own home, in your slippers or your glad rags, but most of all tune in and embrace this lovely evening alongside the residents and members of your community.

Compering the evening’s entertainment will be Julie Jones and Gareth Woodhouse. Julie Jones shared her excitement about the evening’s events,

“I am viewing some of the many videos that have arrived, and it really is an extravaganza of local people’s joys, loves and passions.  Excited and proud to be a local and teaming up with Gareth to compere this event.

There is a pick n mix of everything you can imagine, show casing all age ranges and a real feast for your online, socially distanced eyes.

On the night of 28th November 2020 live acts will be inserted to add to peoples viewing pleasure escalating the sense of fun and this will all be held together by many energised production volunteers, of which I am but one.”

The turning on of Newtown lights and the lantern competition will also be in the live mix…. with prizes announced for the best lantern which were donated by our hard-working local shops and businesses.

Hazel and Charlotte from Celf My Health have orchestrated a swathe of volunteers for weeks now to make this an event that is as inclusive and diverse as possible and worked tirelessly themselves for many months developing ideas and making them happen.

Gareth Woodhouse who will be comparing the event alongside Julie is an experienced, local performer with a wealth of experience acting with Powys Theatre, NADS and Newtown Musical Theatre Company to name a few! So, it promises to be an evening of local entertainment with something to suit all!

Tune in live at 7PM on www.newtown.org.uk on the night of 28th November 2020
