Spate of vandalism in Newtown
Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn town council are sad to report that over the last few months a number of incidents of vandalism have occurred which include graffiti, smashed windows and fire damage to Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council property in Newtown town centre. As you can see from the images the following incidents have taken place:
Brisco House, Broad Street – The same window has been smashed on two occasions in March and May 2018.
The Pryce family mausoleum, St Mary’s Church – Graffiti to three sides of the structure on the evening of 7th June 2018
Riverside Bench – Fire damage to one of our recycled plastic picnic benches on the riverside path on 8th June 2018
Town Clerk Ed Humphreys said “It is very disappointing that damage is being caused to notable historic landmarks of Newtown and leaving other general amenities unusable. Not only does it detract from the well-being of the town, it is a direct monetary cost to NYGoodHealth the people of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn for repairs and increase in insurance premiums and an indirect cost by taking staff away from other duties. I hope people will to report information to the police which might lead to arrest of the perpetrators.”
Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is urging anyone that noticed anything suspicious or has any information relating to the incidents, please report it to Dyfed Powys Police by calling 101. Equally if anyone witnesses any similar incidents please call 101 immediately.
