The Plan So Far…
This year, local arts and wellbeing company Celf Your Health are working in close partnership with Newtown Town Council to produce an exciting, uplifting experience for Newtown Light Switch On 2020 to bring the community together at this difficult time. The main focus will be the connections that are formed through people coming together to entertain one another, volunteer, and make each other feel great. The plan is to have a small socially distanced lantern parade in the town centre made up of Year 6 pupils from various schools, (COVID guidelines allowing), finishing with a dance and samba moment. This will be professionally filmed and live-streamed for everyone across town to watch and take part in, helping create the party atmosphere by banging pots and pans from doorsteps all over town and putting homemade lanterns in windows. This will be followed by…

An Evening of #NewtownTV
There will be a whole evening’s programme of live local talent – streamed from your own home for everyone in town to enjoy. This can be live or pre-recorded. See below to sign up! We want to hear from individuals, groups, and anyone who would like to entertain their neighbours. Love to sing? Dance? Know someone who does? GET INVOLVED!

Shine Your Light
There are so many ways to take part in lighting up Newtown!

Get Involved In Fantastic Volunteering & Performing Opportunities!
Make friends, learn new skills, have a great time and give back to your community. There is a fantastic variety of volunteering opportunities, from helping to gather memories of Newtown Lights Events Past to fundraising, stewarding, being a creative champion or stage managing. Or perhaps you are a performer or entertainer, or lead a performing group. You can be live-streamed on the night itself from wherever you are, or you can send us a completely original (specially made for this event and unseen before) pre-recorded short to be included in the evening’s programme for #NewtownTV. We really do want to hear from you! Make this project shine and light up Newtown! Scroll down to the bottom of this email for a full list fo volunteering roles, with more detail on the council website. Click here to get involved in performing and volunteering – and please do share far and wide.

Take Part in Newtown’s Song!
We are looking for Newtown groups and organisations to sing a line each or send out a message of hope in this year’s lighting the lights song – This Little Light Of Mine! Just imagine if we had a line from our local fire brigade, another from the youth service, one from the town council, another from the football club… It’ll be pre-recorded and cut together ready to be live-streamed on the night as part of #NewtownTV. Contact us to tell us you are up for making your town smile! We will ensure that your recording is done within current COVID guidelines – and may involve sending a photo, film clip without singing, or a short message – we will give full details to all participants. Please pass this on to anyone you know would love to take part. We want to hear from you! celfyourhealth@gmail.com.

Make A Lantern! Win a Prize!
Materials will be available at the newly refurbished Monty Club for you to make a lantern for your window. Let’s light up Newtown and shine a light for neighbours, friends and family! However, you can go as complex as you like – and then take part in the lantern-making competition – winners announced on the night! Judges and prizes TBC. If you are a childcare setting, could help facilitate lantern making activities or know people who could, please do get in touch and share this message widely! Or if you’d like to fundraise to get materials out as widely as possible, we’d love to hear from you. Newtown Lights Volunteer Roles 2020!

Creative Champions will support, lead or encourage others in dance, music and lantern making. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done this before, all that is needed is your enthusiasm! If you think you could motivate others, like to be creative and work as part of a supportive group we want to hear from you. Great opportunity to network, brainstorm, enjoy a laugh and a blast of positivity while you shape this role, gain confidence and help others realise their creative potential.Performers/Entertainers for an evening’s online entertainment on #NewtownTV. Performances will be live streamed from wherever you are. Performance slots limited, allocations will be made to prioritise a varied programme with early contacts placed higher on the list. Programme will include some pre-recordings.

#NewtownTV Programme Coordinator will liaise with acts, putting together the evening’s live-streamed programme. Are you open to all sorts of performances and performers, able to book for all ages? Do you have or would you like some event experience? Are you happy on the phone, replying to emails  and creating a timetable? Do you have time to offer and a high level of commitment? Sounds like this could be for you.

Stewards will help look after the outdoor event – in line with COVID guidelines. You will work buy cheap xanax overnight shipping online in a team within health and safety guidelines in conjunction with Newtown Council and the parade manager.

Like to give everyone the opportunity to make their own lantern to light up Newtown this winter? Need motivation and support to get going on something positive? Like to meet new people? Try taking part in fundraising.

Fundraising Coordinator will be someone good at organising, encouraging and supporting others to take part in fundraising. Are you organised and motivated? You would be welcome to go into the community to promote this project or undertake interviews dependent on COVID restrictions, or encourage for instance care staff or schools to promote/take part in this project. We will support you to get started, and then you can develop your own ideas. You will work closely with staff at Newtown Library where people will take their photos/memorabilia to, and will have the chance to create a display or small exhibition there, which will be live streamed on the night of the light switch on. Great for anyone who likes to see all ages of the community involved, or would like to develop skills in organisation, coordinating, exhibiting. This is what you make it!

Parade Walkers dependent on COVID guidelines, this may be supporting/walking alongside the parade of young people within a carefully socially distanced parade which would be live streamed across Newtown. The focus will be the lanterns to create a big visual effect with low numbers of people so don’t worry if you are camera shy! Good company and a lot of fun, you will be among the few on the town’s central streets – (COVID guidelines allowing.)

Flyering Love walking? Like to chat to people? This is a really feelgood, outside activity, delivering leaflets through doors and in cafes, shops and bars all over Newtown, reaching out to those who aren’t online and helping the town get excited about the light switch on event and party feeling. Like to deliver in fancy dress? You’re welcome to. DELETE! USE NEWTOWN NETWORK.

Production/Stage Support will be on the street on the night making sure everyone has what they need and are in the right place. This is a challenging, intense role and we will be looking for people with a very specific skillset. If you are interested in developing in this area, think you may have the right skills or already have experience in this role, we’d love to hear from you.

Production/Stage Manager will be heading up the production support team, making sure the event runs smoothly and everyone is where they need to be at the right time. As with the support role, this is a highly responsible job. We will be looking for someone who already has experience within this area, preferably of this role, potentially with the ability to mentor someone else who could share the load.

Father Xmas will bring lots of joy to children all over Newtown, and may travel with the mobile DJ booth – this is to be confirmed. If you have a long white beard and moustache, this could be the perfect role for you! Er… only joking. Facial hair supplied. All we need is your ho ho ho and happiness.
