This week, work has begun on Trehafren Hill on the new BMX Pump Track and Mountain Bike Trail. Safety signage and fencing will be installed on Wednesday which will include contact information for communications relating to the projects.
Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and Open Newtown are working on a joint project to deliver a high quality BMX Pump Track which is a key project for the Services Committee this year. Cllr. John Byrne lead councillor for the Services Committee said; “We hope the new BMX Pump Track will be something which will benefit residents and visitors alike. With the nearby mountain bike trail, it’s a good example of Town Council working with Open Newtown to add more to the overall offer of ‘Destination Newtown’ than each could do alone.”
The Mountain Bike trail project by Open Newtown is their first major project following the award of the lottery grant earlier this year. Some access to the hill will be restricted during construction. Mayor Cllr. David Selby said; “I am pleased that a key project enabled by the Town Council has started on site this week. There is bound to some restriction on walking on Trehafren Hill while the works take place but I look forward to benefits from the new track and walkways soon.”
