Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council would like to express deep appreciation and sincere thanks to Gemma Wallis, who has served as the town council’s dedicated Community Youth Representative since June 2021. Her remarkable contributions and passion for engaging with young people have left a lasting impact on our community.
“I really enjoyed my time as the Youth Rep, and I do hope you get more,” expressed Gemma Wallis. “This time around was a lot better with regular meetings, allowing me to express myself and my interests more effectively. It has been an incredibly fun experience, and I can’t wait to see what the next youth rep will bring to the table. Thank you for having me on the council.”
As a Community Youth Representative, Gemma Wallis helped meet a vital role, acting as a bridge between the young people in our town and your town council. Her responsibilities included gathering and relaying ideas and views from the youth, engaging more young people in town council activities and events, actively participating in meetings and discussions, visiting youth groups and organisations to understand their perspectives, and promoting the work of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council to the younger generation.
Town Clerk Ed Humphreys explained “Your town council has powers to appointment individuals over the age of 15 as community youth representatives. A community youth representative is not an elected councillor who must be over 18 years of age and has all the duties of elected representatives, but provides a channel for a younger voice and of course is a means of learning about representative democracy in practice. As Gemma steps down from her role, we wish her every success in her future endeavours and look forward to welcoming new Community Youth Representatives to continue building the future Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn.”
Your town council firmly believes that the legacy Gemma leaves behind will continue to inspire and motivate future youth representatives to bring even bigger and better ideas to the table. Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is committed to fostering a strong bond with young residents and ensuring their voices are heard in shaping the town’s future.
