Residents and visitors in Newtown have long raised concerns about the ongoing issue of dog fouling. Dog waste on our streets is not only unpleasant but also poses health risks to both people and animals. We kindly remind all dog owners to be responsible and make use of the many dog poo bins located across the town.
We all value a safe and tidy community. Earlier this summer, members of the Services Committee, together with the Town Mayor, Pete Lewington, then-Cllr Bryn Steer, James Thompson (Powys County Council) and Jodie Griffith (Keep Wales Tidy) carried out a morning inspection to highlight key dog fouling hot spots around Newtown.
Areas visited included St Mary’s, Union Street and Llanfair Road. To raise awareness, chalk-based pink spray was used to highlight dog bins in each area, with additional signs and stickers placed nearby encouraging the public to keep Powys clean and safe. Also, free dog waste bags were made available to encourage responsible ownership.

What You Can Do
If you are a dog owner, please do your part to protect our shared spaces:
- Always pick up after your dog.
- Dispose of waste in the designated bins provided around the town.
This simple action helps prevent the spread of disease and keeps Newtown’s streets clean and welcoming for everyone.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to keeping our town a pleasant place to live and visit.
