The Services Committee of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council has generously donated a Pink Prunus ‘Accolade’ blossom tree to the Memorial Garden in Newtown. This beautiful tree serves as a lasting tribute to all who served in the Far East during the Second World War, marking the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day.
Known for its vibrant pink blossoms, the tree symbolises remembrance, peace and gratitude. It stands as a living memorial to the courage and sacrifice of those who fought in the final stages of the war.

Pictured alongside the newly planted tree are Mr Pete Lewington, Mayor of Newtown; Cllr Margaret Lewington, Chair of the Services Committee and Hannah Morris, Operations Manager
Their presence reflects the Town Council’s ongoing commitment to honouring the legacy of veterans and preserving the memory of significant historical events for future generations.
