28 miles from Newtown lies the picturesque Lake Vyrnwy. You can hire a bicycle and ride around the lake, which is a flattish ride of about 12 miles, visit the sculpture park below the dam, spend time in the bird hides and RSPB centre and finish with a cup of tea and a cake in one of the cafes.
