Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council working in conjunction with Tidy Wales and Powys County Council is excited to announce the return of Tidy Newtown Week 2026, a town wide community litter picking initiative taking place from Monday 16th March to Saturday 21st March. This annual event is part of Spring Clean Cymru and encourages residents, businesses, schools and community groups to join forces in keeping our town clean, green and welcoming.

Why Tidy Newtown Matters

Keeping Newtown tidy isn’t just about appearance – it’s about community pride, wellbeing, and environmental responsibility. Every litter pick contributes to cleaner streets, safer green spaces, and a stronger sense of shared ownership of our town. Whether you join for one session or the whole week, every pair of hands makes a difference.

The Litter Picking Schedule

Throughout the week, organised volunteer sessions will take place across Newtown’s neighbourhoods, estates, parks, and town centre. Each session has a clear location, meeting point and time, making it easy to drop in and get involved.

Every Litter Pick Helps

Tidy Newtown 2026 is more than a clean-up – it’s a celebration of community spirit. By working together, we can protect our shared environment, support local pride and show what Newtown can achieve when everyone gets involved.

Let’s make this the best Tidy Newtown Week yet!

Free Creative Workshops: Rag Rugging & Bird Box Pyrography

Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council invites people of all ages to explore traditional craft techniques in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Join us at Hafan Yr Afon for a morning of free, hands-on creative workshops on Saturday 21 March from 11am to 1pm.

Rag Rugging Workshop

Discover the traditional craft of rag rugging and learn how recycled fabrics can be transformed into colourful and textured designs. This workshop is delivered in collaboration with The Textile Junkies, a creative textile initiative focused on reuse, sustainability and craft skills.

Wooden Bird Box Making & Pyrography

Create and decorate your own wooden bird box using pyrography, the art of decorating wood with heated tools. This hands-on activity is a great way to explore creativity while making something practical for local wildlife.

These free workshops are a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills, get creative, and meet others in the community. All materials will be provided.
