Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council invites the community to come together in solemn reflection and remembrance this November, as we honour those who gave their lives in service to our country.

The town will gather for the Civic Remembrance Service at the Newtown Cenotaph, following a parade that begins outside the Monty Club on Broad Street at 10:35am. The parade will proceed to the Cenotaph, where the service will commence at 10:55 am at All Saints Church, Commercial Street, Newtown, Powys SY16 2BW.

The ceremony will include:

  • The Last Post and two minutes of silence
  • Exhortation and Kohima recited in both Welsh and English
  • Calling of Names of the fallen by local school pupils
  • Laying of wreaths, prayers and the Act of Commitment
  • The Anthem of Wales and the UK, followed by a final blessing

Road closures will be in place to ensure the safety and dignity of the event.

On Tuesday, 11th November, the community will gather at the War Memorial at 10:45am for a poignant Armistice Day ceremony.

Highlights include:

  • A welcome from the Mayor of Newtown
  • The Last Post, two minutes of silence, and Reveille
  • Readings of the Exhortation and Kohima
  • Calling of Names by pupils from six local schools, honouring 48 individuals
  • Wreath laying by school children
  • A Prayer of Commitment and Blessing
