Newtown has taken another exciting step towards becoming a smarter, more connected town with the launch of free public Wi‑Fi in the town centre.
This latest development is part of the town’s wider Smart Towns programme, an initiative focused on using technology and data to support local economic growth, improve services and create a more vibrant community.
Improving Connectivity for Everyone
Delivered in partnership with Powys County Council and funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the new Wi‑Fi network provides fast, free and reliable internet access in key areas of the town centre.
For residents, it means easier access to online services while on the go. For visitors, it enhances their experience, making it simpler to explore, shop and stay connected. And for businesses, it creates more opportunities to engage with customers and benefit from increased footfall.
Data-Driven Insights for a Stronger Town Centre
Beyond connectivity, the network brings an important additional benefit: insightful, anonymised data. By analysing patterns such as footfall, movement and dwell time, the town can better understand how people interact with Newtown.
